Johnnie Chapman, 83 of Amarillo passed away September 9, 2012. Memorial services will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 12, 2012 at Jehovah’s Witness Kingdom Hall, 701 Quail Creek. Local arrangements are by Griggs-Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors, 5400 S. Bell. Johnnie was born September 22, 1928 in Ordway, Colorado to Jess and Julia Chapman. He was raised in Colorado and was one of nine children. Johnnie served his country proudly in the U.S. Navy. He married the love of his life, Gladys Wilson in 1950 in Raton, New Mexico and the two were married for 62 years. Johnnie was a truck driver and drove for Red Ball Freight for more than 20 years. Johnnie loved the outdoors, especially the lake where he would take his grandkids fishing. He was also an avid “handy-man”, who could just about fix anything. Johnnie was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be greatly missed. Johnnie is survived by his wife of 62 years, Gladys Chapman of the home; daughter, Cynthia Ott and husband Andy of Amarillo; son, Johnny Chapman of Amarillo; brother, Bob Chapman of Pueblo, Colorado; sister-in-law, Joan Chapman of Pueblo, Colorado; grandsons, Jason Ott of Abilene and Justin Ott of Amarillo; also by many nieces and nephews.
