John was born in Ventura, California on June 13, 1948 to Kenneth A. Mandaville and Chrystella (Romero) Mandaville. He graduated from Ventura High School in 1966 and was a graduate from Ventura College in 1968. John grew up in Ventura, California, the oldest of two children – the big brother to his baby sister.
He met his wife of 41 years, Ouida (Wray ne Stayton) Mandaville in Amarillo, Texas. They met while both working at TEXICO Conference of the Seventh-day Adventist in Amarillo, Texas. John was selling books door to door as a colporter, and Ouida worked at secretarial duties. John kept finding reasons to visit Ouida in the office. The rest, as they say, is history.
John worked in the Burleson/Dallas/Fort Worth area as a FAX Service and Repairman. While living in the Burleson area, John and Ouida raised Kandy, their granddaughter until her untimely passing in 2000.
Returning to the Amarillo/Canyon, Texas area John worked at Tascosa Office Machines Inc. He enjoyed the atmosphere there and felt welcomed into the owner’s personal family.
John would volunteer to help run the sound system at the Amarillo Seventh-day Adventist Church in Amarillo. Even when the inevitable last-minute changes would occur, John always had a positive attitude and adapted so the program would be flawless.
John had a wonderful sense of humor and got along with His buddy from the “soundbooth” at church. He looked forward to the many meals in restaurants around the Canyon/Amarillo area with Sam Sottile and others from the church.
John was preceded in death by his wife Ouida Mandaville in 2021.
Survivors include his sister, Pamela Mandaville Rojas, her husband Heraldo Rojas, and their daughter Gabriela Rojas all of San Bruno, California; his brother-in-law James Stayton of Amarillo, Texas and his wife Lynda; his stepson Thomas Wray and wife Sara; his numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews.
John fought for almost a year to beat cancer. And although his earthly body could no longer sustain the fight, those of us who were loved by him know that he is finally sleeping in Jesus. We look forward joyfully to the day we are reunited again.
He was loved and supported by many, from his family, from his church, the Amarillo Seventh Adventist Church, from Tascosa Office Machines, from the Men’s Bible Study Group he belonged to, and his neighbors around JJ Street who were all keeping an eye on him. Plus, the loving care of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
