Jimmy Nathan Phillips, 94, of Amarillo, Texas, passed away on January 15, 2025. He was born on June 4, 1930, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. A proud graduate of Will Rogers High School in 1949, Jimmy continued his education at Southwestern Assembly of God College, graduating in 1953. At the young age of 17, he received his credentials to preach and was ordained at 23, embarking on a lifelong journey of ministry.
For 30 years, Jimmy served as an evangelist, sharing the message of hope and faith. He pastored for 21 years and held the position of presbyter for five years. Additionally, he served as the contact chaplain for the Security Air Force Base for six years and was the president of the Ministerial Alliance for five years. His commitment to ministry also included serving on the Committee for Teen Challenge, an organization dedicated to helping those in need.One of Jimmy's most noteworthy accomplishments was preaching in the world's largest church in Seoul, South Korea, which boasts a remarkable membership of 750,000, under the leadership of Dr. David Paul Cho. He also made appearances on top-rated religious television shows both nationally and internationally, traveling to over 50 countries and preaching in leading churches around the globe. For 16 years, he shared his wisdom and passion for faith by teaching the Hallelujah Class at The Church at Quail Creek. A resident of Amarillo for 57 years, Jimmy's legacy of faith and dedication touched countless lives.
He is survived by his sons, Marcus Phillips and Todd Setliff and his wife Dee; his daughter, Leron (Phillips) Redus and her husband Rick; and daughter-in-law, Cathy Phillips. He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren: Matalee (Redus) Gentry and her husband Kevin, Julie Redus, Dustin Phillips and his wife Mari, Ashley (Phillips) Schenker and her husband Jason, Ross Margaret Phillips, Lauren (Setliff) Speer and her husband John, and Mitchell Setliff and his wife Emma. In addition, Jimmy cherished his great-grandchildren: Sam Gentry, Josephine Gentry, Clark Phillips, Victoria Phillips, Hadlee Hartman, Holden Speer, and Hayes Speer.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his son, David Phillips, who passed away in 2019; his wife, Joyce Phillips, who passed in 2015; his sister, Mildred Phillips; his brother, Jack Phillips; and his parents, Mamie and Edward (Pug) Phillips.
