Jim Burnett, 73 of Amarillo passed away January 9, 2019. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 12, 2019 at Second Baptist Church with Wayne Griffin officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery by Memorial Park Funeral Home 6969 I-40 East. Jim was born March 31, 1945 in Ola, Arkansas to Burl and Faye Burnett. He was raised as a young child in Arkansas until 1954. At 9 years old, his family moved to Amarillo, TX where Jim would plant roots and later create a family of his own. Jim had an unmatched work ethic. He spent a number of years serving Potter County as a Sherriff’s Deputy, where he protected families of over 900 square miles.
Later, his interests & passions took him into the trucking business. For many years he was an Owner Operator, and had a very successful transport career. Jim was an avid fisherman, loved spending time outdoors, and found peace and joy by making birdhouses in his spare time. From his lake house in New Mexico, to the hills of Arkansas, Jim’s sense of adventure took him & his wife ElJuanda, all across the country. His love for her was deeper than the ocean. They were best friends and soul mates. Together, they built a life and a legacy that is echoing for generations to come. Jim was a hard worker and sacrificed much for his family.
He taught his children to love God, which was an integral part of his family values as a father. As a devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather and great grandfather; Jim will be forever in our hearts. He was preceded in death by his daughter Kara, & his parents. Jim is survived by his daughter, Sondra Burnett Logan and husband Shawn of Amarillo; son, Gary Burnett and wife Debra of Amarillo; daughter, DeDra Burnett Britton and Allen Ward of Belton, Texas; sisters, Helen Phillips and husband Ronnie of Franklin, Texas and Barbara Hudson and husband Rex of Ovilla, Texas, and brother, Jack Wallace and wife Karen of Amarillo; 7 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren; also by numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Jim was a mountain of a man, and lived a faithful life unto Christ.
