Janice Darlene Browning Tversky was born on July 21, 1945 in Borger, Texas, the daughter of E.L and Burnese Browning. She graduated Palo Duro High School in 1963. Janice received her degree in Education from West Texas State University in 1970 and was certified to teach all levels in speech and hearing as well as children with special healthcare needs.
Janice worked as a Speech and Hearing Therapist at Highland Park School from 1970 to 1973. She worked for Rex Reeves Elementary School in Canyon from 1979 -1988 and developed a functional living class for medically fragile children ages 2 to 21. She developed many of the teaching materials and served as representative for Association of Professional Educators for 9 years. In 1988, she began working at Region XVI Education Services Center ECI as an Instructor/Field Specialist from birth to 3 and established a support group for families of children with special healthcare needs. She also worked at Bushland Elementary School as a kindergarten teacher as well as with medically fragile children until she retired in 2003. She volunteered in the church nurseries/ children’s ministry at Canyon Christian, Westview Christian and Hillside West Christian Church. She was a charter founding member of Canyon Christian Church.
She is preceded in death by her parents, E. L. and Burnese Browning.
Survivors includer her son, Jon Tversky and his wife Joni of Amarillo; her daughter, Dr. Nicole Tversky Lopez and her husband Terry of Amarillo; her sister, Joyce Keeter and her husband Robert, and her brother, Rev. Max Browning of Plainview; 6 grandchildren, Blake (Kylee), Blaine and Blayson Tversky, and Parker (Jessie) , Rylee and Carson Lopez, all of Amarillo, as well as numerous nieces, their spouses and their children.
