Jan Peters Edwards, 78 of Amarillo, TX, passed away peacefully surrounded by family, October 28, 2023. Jan was born to Virgil and Estine Peters January 28, 1945. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister Norma Kimbrell, brothers Doug Peters and Bob Ed Peters and a nephew Ryan Peters. She is survived by sister-in-law Shirley Peters; nieces Shelley Makovec and husband Gary, Kristen Reneau and husband Bobby; niece-in-law Tandra Peters; nephews Craig Newkirk, John D. Peters and Dallas Peters; great nieces McKenzie Thompson and husband Reed and Cyan Peters; great nephews Dalton and Colin Newkirk, Noah and Colter Reneau, Addison, Justice, Blaise, and Tristan Peters; beloved cousins Mary Jane Groves, Lori Tavares and Jennifer Smith. She cared for each as her own with unconditional love, selfless generosity and support.
Jan was such an avid fan and supporter of the WTAMU Lady Buffs softball, volleyball and basketball teams. Many of the players called her “Mama Jan”. If she wasn’t cheering them on from the stands, she was in her lounge chair watching them on her cell phone. In her younger years, she too was a great athlete and it was important to her to encourage and support these young ladies.
Jan was a former employee of KGNC, Owens Corning Fiberglass as a Process Engineer, City of Amarillo Parks & Recreation as Athletic Director, Another Chance House as Direct Care Staff and Embroidery Haus Plus as Office Manager.
Jan had a unique way of touching everyone’s heart. Rarely did she go anywhere that she didn’t know someone. She has left so many with fond memories that will be cherished forever. We are all thankful she is free of her struggles and has entered into her eternal home as one of the brightest angels ever. She will be deeply missed by many.
Gifts can be made in her memory to the WTAMU Foundation (noted in memory of Jan Edwards on the check) and mailed to WTAMU Box 60766, Canyon TX 79016.
