Janice Lee McReynolds Snyder, 65, of Amarillo, died peacefully at home Sunday Dec. 17 2017. Services will be Saturday, December 23, at 11:00 a.m. at First Christian Church Amarillo, Reverend Barry Loving officiating. She was born January 16, 1952 in Humeston, Iowa, unto Wayman McReynolds and Mary Ida Reed. She is survived by her mother, husband Richard of 39 years, daughter Hillary Gil, Son in law Mark Gil both of Amarillo, Brother- in-law Doug Snyder, two nieces and many cousins. She was preceded in death by her father. Janice lived in Iowa until the age of 6 when her minister father moved the family to Phoenix, AZ to serve on the regional staff for the Christian Church Disciples of Christ. She attended grammar school in the Osborn school district and graduated from West High School where she was a member of Parnassus, National Honor Society and sang in the mixed chorus. After three years at Arizona State University she was accepted to the Baylor College of Dentistry and earned her degree in Science and Dental Hygiene.
It was during her early school years that she became life long friends with four girls who loved getting together at a local ice cream parlor, and into adulthood continued to meet there once a year to this day to enjoy each others' company. In her teens she attended many church camps, conferences and two mission trips to Mexico. Working at drive-ins in the Phoenix area was one of her favorite work experiences. Her parents instilled in her a love for travel as the family visited many National Parks, and world fairs including New York, Seattle and Montreal. Other signature trips include hiking the Grand Canyon from north rim to south with her father, and touring Europe with her parents in a VW purchased from their Belgium factory. As an adult she traveled with her husband and daughter to all 50 states, Canada, England and innumerable museums, theme parks and factory tours!
Music and theater were her primary entertainment interests as favorite artists included Elton John, Billy Joel and Barry Manilow. Sound of Music, and Les Miserables were favorite musicals while the Nutcracker was a perennial favorite starting with an early childhood role as a Buffoon. Janice worked 42 years as a Dental Hygienist, most recently for Amarillo Dental Associates and was active in the local Dental Hygiene association. She was a member of First Christian Church, Amarillo for 30 years where she sang in the alto section of the choir and was a member of the Covenant Sunday School Class. Her passion was christian outreach and she coordinated working partnerships for her church with the Salvation Army, High Plains Food Bank, Eveline Rivers, Soles for Souls and many ministries within her denomination.
