Janice was born on March 16,1942 to Rod Anderson and Geneva Harkins in Peach Creek, Oklahoma. As the daughter of a Father who worked in the oil field, she grew up all over the place including Washington, California, Oklahoma, and Texas. Janice attended high school in Fluvanna, Texas and graduated in 1959. After high school, she worked for many years as a dedicated Licensed Vocational Nurse. She worked for Dr. Stenhouse for 25 years and then at Texas Tech Health, and later at Bivins Memorial Nursing Home.
Janice had a host of many interests and hobbies; including shopping for antiques and collecting them for several years, crafting, gardening and canning. She had a particular interest in genealogy and was known for being the family historian. She kept up with several family records for years. Most especially, she loved and adored all of her grandkids and great-grandkids, they were her world. Family time was very important to her and she loved Sunday dinners and would always make fresh bread. Those dinners often came with funny or silly surprises, you never knew what you might find in your food - maybe even a plastic fly.
Janice was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Frank Hughes; her brother, Lewis Edward Anderson; her brother-in-law, Bebe Porter; and her niece, Pam Porter.
Survivors left to cherish her memory are her dedicated companion of 25 years, Jerry Don Pickens; her son, Tim Smallwood and wife, Kelly, of Amarillo; her daughter, Dana Higgs and husband, Kal, of Amarillo; her sister, Helen Porter, of Olathe, Kansas; her grandchildren, Kallie McBride and Husband, Mitch, Kyle Higgs, and wife, Bianca, Yvette Smallwood, and Saira Smallwood; her great-grandchildren, Mason, Roland, Everett, Lukas, Kaycen, and Koa; and her nephew, Rodney Porter.
