Howard “Corky” Lawrence Barnes Jr., 77, of Amarillo, Texas laid down his working tools on August 4, 2022. Memorial Services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, September 3, 2022 at Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 I - 40 East.
Howard “Corky” was born on July 3, 1945 in Parsons, Kansas to the late Howard Lawrence Barnes and Neta Marie (Hesting) Sivils. Corky graduated from Parsons High School in 1963. Corky proudly served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War from 1967-68, driving an LCM - 8 “Mike” boat along the Mekong River and was a member of the Color Guard.
Corky was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 50 years, Sandra. He is survived by son Brecken and wife Heather Barnes of Dallas, Texas; daughter, Tiffanie Kisor and husband Trent of Amarillo; two grandsons Chase and Ryder; sister Verna Owens of Kansas; aunt, Sharon Wurtele of Nebraska; several adored nieces, nephews and cousins.
Corky became a wireman electrician and general foreman for A - 1 Electric, he often would share stories about jobs he completed around town, retiring as an electrician from the VA Hospital in 2005. Corky became a 32nd-degree Freemason in 1974. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers - Local 602 for 50 years.
Corky enjoyed hunting, IBEW golf tournaments, slalom skiing, and snow skiing. He loved playing cards, coaching, Boy Scout camping trips, restoring boats with his son, remodeling his daughter’s house, and lending a helping hand to friends and family on construction projects. Later, he enjoyed fishing with “The Boys.” He and the late Sandra enjoyed weekly dancing at the VFW and other local establishments. Corky was an unforgettable character, who made you smile.

The family requests everyone attending the Memorial service wears red, white, and blue colors.
The Barnes Family invites all family and friends to lunch at 7109 Jameson Road following the service.
