Helen Louise Porter of Amarillo passed away on February 4, 2023. She was born in Amarillo, Texas to Robert and Callie Bellamy. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 9, 2023 at 10 AM at Comanche Trail Church of Christ with Loran Harper officiating with burial to follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery. With such a gift for sign language, Helen worked for the Regional Education Program for the Deaf (REPD) with Amarillo ISD. She interpreted for many students and teachers for 26 years. She also interpreted many graduation ceremonies. After retirement, Helen interpreted for Amarillo College and throughout the community.
Helen interpreted many church services at Central Church of Christ, Bell Avenue Church of Christ and Comanche Trail Church of Christ. Helen enjoyed quilting at home and with the Amarillo Senior Citizen Association. Memorials can be made in her honor to Regional Educational Program for the Deaf- AISD (REPD).
She is preceded in death by her parents Robert and Callie Bellamy; husband William Porter, February 1991, Brother Bobbie Bellamy, June 2016.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Bill Porter and wife Carrie; Becky Williams and husband Chuck; Sandy Swearingen and husband Terry and Gina Lavender and husband Glenn. Brothers Richard Bellamy, Matt Bellamy and Roger Bellamy. Sisters Frankie Womack and Carol Card. Ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
