Helen Ruth Campbell was born on October 23, 1930 to Bert and Ethel Campbell in Byers, Texas. She lived on the farm and went to a small country school in Charlie, TX. Her father passed away in 1942, so her mother placed her in the Children’s home in Corsicana where she graduated in 1947. That is where she met and married her late husband Jack Lewis; they were married on September 7, 1947. She was a member of Olsen Park Church of Christ. She was a member of the Amarillo Botanical Garden, helped with the Festival of Trees, and volunteered for many other organizations. Helen enjoyed cooking, canning sewing and taking care of her elderly neighbors.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband; her parents, four brothers and three sisters and a special friend Bill Cain.
She is survived by four children Barbara Shelton and husband Robert DeSoto, three sons, John Lewis and wife Sally of Mesquite, Nevada; Jerry A. Lewis of El Paso and Larry Lewis and wife Becky of Amarillo. Thirteen grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews along with extended family Allen and Debbie Cain.
Memorial can be made in honor of Helen to Botanical Gardens in Amarillo.
