Harry E. Riggins, age 76, of Amarillo, Texas, passed away on March 20, 2025. He was born on March 13, 1949, in El Paso, Texas, to Lee and Coral Riggins. Harry graduated from White Deer High School in 1967 and was drafted into the Army in 1969. After serving, he attended electronic school in Denver, Colorado, for two years before spending a year at Texas Tech University. Following his education, he began driving trucks locally, a profession that would become a significant part of his life. In 1973, Harry married his beloved wife, Shirley. Together, they raised three daughters, sharing a life filled with love and adventure. After Shirley earned her Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), she joined Harry in driving cross-country for a decade. When Shirley retired, Harry returned to local deliveries, allowing him to spend more time with his family.
Harry retired in 2015, which opened up more opportunities for him to enjoy his passions. He loved hunting, working on cars, caring for his yard, and serving as a camp host at Palo Duro Canyon. He enjoyed many camping trips with the Yellow Rose Good Sam camping group and cherished traveling across the United States.
Harry is survived by his wife, Shirley Riggins of Amarillo; one daughter; Sheila Back and husband Tony of Seattle, WA, his son from another mother, Stacy South and wife Tiffany of Amarillo; Donald Holland of Lubbock; his sister-in-law, Pamela Riggins; and nieces Pam Barnes and husband Doyle, Melinda Kohout and husband Kent, and Kristi Poole and husband James, all of Amarillo. He is also survived by several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Harry was preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Coral Riggins of White Deer, Texas; his brother, William Riggins of Amarillo; and his daughters, Crystal Riggins of Amarillo and Vickie Stephens of Wellington, Colorado. A celebration of Harry's life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice in his memory.
Harry will be remembered for his loving spirit, adventurous heart, and dedication to his family. He will be profoundly missed by all who knew and loved him.
