Glenda was born March 14, 1938, to W. W. and Mary Elizabeth Cook on the family’s farm in Samnorwood, Texas. As a young woman she enjoyed playing basketball for Samnorwood High School. At the age of 16, she married her high school sweetheart, Joe Schaub, and had two children. In 1973, she was remarried to William (Bill) Prouty, who she would remain married to until his passing. In 1979, Glenda retired from the U.S. Government after many years as a realty specialist for the General Services Administration. Throughout her adult life, she was a devoted Christian and was a member of St. Stephens United Methodist Church in Amarillo for more than 25 years. She was known as a generous and kind soul who never refused an opportunity to help her family, friends and church community.
A memorial service for Glenda will be held on a later date.
Glenda was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William F. Prouty; brothers W. R. and W. D. Cook; and sisters Lee Sebring, Laverne Nelson and Carolyn Jones. She is survived by her brother, Jerry Cook and wife Linda of Amarillo; her sister Marilyn and husband Pat Bradley of Wichita Falls; her daughter, Debra Hendricks and son-in-law Mark of Amarillo; her son, Michael Schaub and daughter-in-law Aurora of Leesburg, Virginia; step-daughter Brenda Prouty McNabb of Fort Worth,; granddaughter Rachael and husband Ed Maxwell of Amarillo; grandson Joseph Hendricks and wife Sara of Austin; grandson Kevin Schaub and granddaughter Katie Schaub of Leesburg; great grandchildren John Paul Kelly, Preston Kelly and Madelyn Maxwell of Amarillo; and many nieces, nephews and cousins who she loved very much. She also leaves behind many friends from throughout her life.
