Gary Wayne Satterfield, 81, of Amarillo, TX was peaceably welcomed into the arms of Jesus on March 4, 2022. Services will be held Thursday, March 10, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. at Memorial Park Chapel of Memories, 6969 I-40 East, with Brad Reeves officiating. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 9, 2022, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Gary was born December 5, 1940, to Clayton and Leona Satterfield in Wheeler, TX. Growing up on a farm, he loved to work on anything mechanical, ride horses, and play sports. After graduating Wheeler High School, he met the love of his life, Peaches, at Frank Phillips College, married, and had four daughters. His career spanned Bell Helicopter, Diebold, and his own business Satterfield Lawn Care Service. Throughout the years, he coached his daughters and grandchildren in basketball, softball, and baseball.
Dad aka Grandpa will be dearly missed. As a man of few words, he was lovingly ornery. He had the magic touch of calming his grandchildren and great-grandchildren for naps. In retirement, you could find him in his recliner watching any Western especially those with John Wayne, the Texas Rangers, the Dallas Cowboys, find him at Braum’s for a burger and ice-cream, or at his grandchildren’s events. No matter what was needed, he always generously provided for his family.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years Lynora “Peaches” Satterfield, his daughters Gara Martin, Lyra Satterfield, Kira Satterfield, and Vonda Chapman and husband Brent; his grandchildren Tyler Martin and wife Sarah, Cody Martin and wife Virginia, Kelsi Inge and husband Chris, Brennen Chapman and wife Ariel, Cole Chapman, and Brady Chapman; greatgrandchildren Cooper, Kamryn, Natalie, Meredith, Ben, Aiden, Kyler, Hunter, Liam, Paisley, Aurora, and Elliott. He is preceded in death by his parents Clayton and Leona Satterfield, and brothers Clayton “Gerald” and Dale “Butch” Satterfield.
Special thanks to Kindred Hospice and Good Life Senior Living and Memory Care for loving Gary as their own.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donating to KidsInc.org to honor Gary’s many years of volunteer coaching.
