Frank Johnson Jr. was born in New Boston Ohio on June 12, 1927. He passed away on September 5, 2021, at the age of 94. He was raised near Camp Dix, Kentucky, the eldest of five sisters and one brother. He was an eight-year veteran of the United States Army and served in active duty in Korea. Frank married Frances McCabe in Shawnee, Oklahoma, and shared 69 happy years. After his time in the army, he went to work for Remington Rand Corporation in Dallas, Texas. Remington transferred him to Las Cruces, New Mexico in 1957, servicing White Sands Missile Range. He owned and operated Las Cruces Typewriter and Equipment as a Remington dealer. In Las Cruces he was a member of Jaycees, DAV, and was a delegate to the Republican Party from Dona Anna County. He loved fishing, hunting and playing 42. In 1970, he and Frances moved to Amarillo, Texas, where he owned several rental properties and an apartment complex. In Amarillo he was a member of a Studebaker Drivers Club and with his sons, he restored several Studebakers. Frank and Francis moved to Hobbs in 2003 to be closer to family. He loved history, geography, and was a serious bookworm. Until shortly before his death he completed the newspaper crossword puzzle every day. He was a loving husband and father; he will be greatly missed.
He is preceded in death by one son David Johnson, parents Jewel and Preston Horsley, three sisters, Romona Pitonquit, Vina June Wadkins, Joy Trudeau and one brother Paul Allen Horsley.
He is survived by his wife Frances Johnson, a son John Johnson, a daughter Jennifer Drennan, her husband Brett Drennan, a grandson Zachary Drennan all of Hobbs. One granddaughter, Terra Pate and her husband Jason Pate of Bedford, Texas. Two great grandsons Ty and Trace Pate. He is also survived by sister Jocelyn Strong of Grand Haven, Michigan and her three children, Mitchell Strong and Andy Strong of Michigan, Anita Moon and her family from Corpus Christie, Texas. His sister Monell Althouse. He is also survived by a niece and nephew Sara and Danny Owen of the Plano area.
