A celebration of Don’s life will be scheduled at a later date.
Don was born on December 14, 1937 in Levelland, Texas to Dick and Lillie (Rawlins) Johnson in the family home. In the 1950s, Dick and Lillie relocated the family to Amarillo, Texas. He attended school in Amarillo, and was a graduate of the first graduating class of Palo Duro High School in 1956.
Shortly after graduation, he married his high school sweetheart Jackie Moen. They built a life and family together for the better part of 61 years until her passing in 2017.
Don’s career path led him into construction, a path that lasted more than three decades. He owned his own company for ten years, and would retire as Superintendent for Western Builders after 25 years with them.
Don found much to enjoy in his post retirement life. He enjoyed league bowling, playing chickens on line, meeting up with his old high school classmates once a month to grab a bite to eat; and riding around on his Harley. He was also an active member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church and his Sunday School Class.
Don was preceded in death by his wife Jackie, son Tony Johnson, and his parents. Those left to cherish his memories are his daughters Teresa and Elisha, brother Jimmie Johnson and wife Gail; and nieces and nephews Cara McCool, Mia Lee, and Ronnie Johnson.
