Danny Johnson, 72, of Amarillo, Texas passed away March 26, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. Danny was born to Harvey and Tiny Johnson on November 28, 1944 in Amarillo, Texas where he lived his entire life. He attended Amarillo High School. He worked at Bell Helicopter from 1975 to 1982. In 1981 he met and married Glenda Jean Rogers on July 17, 1981 in San Angelo, Texas. He was the owner of Amarillo Sewer & Drain Cleaning from 1972 until his retirement in 2001. Danny loved dirt track racing and drag racing. He raced dirt track cars from 1973 to 1977. All of his children and grandchildren have followed in his footsteps and are part of the racing family today. His racing number was #59, which his daughter also ran.
Danny was his kid’s biggest fan and loved helping them whether it was telling them a “better way” to do something or giving a word of advice on how to get around the track a little faster. He owned the drag car that his son Jimmy raced called “Daddy’s Pain”. Danny was a member of the Amarillo Jaycees and helped young kids build soap box derby cars. Danny loved to go fishing at Lake Tinkiller with his son Jimmy. He loved to play his guitar and listen to “old” country music. One of his favorite past times was to tinker in his garage or at the shop with his kids. He also loved to “go run around” with his mother during the day. He was a square dance caller and was a member of XYL&M, Texas Twisters and Autumn Squares.
He always had a joke to tell and liked to make people smile. Danny loved his wife, kids and grandkids and mother very much. He loved the Lord and was a member of South Georgia Baptist Church. Danny is preceded in death by his father- Harvey Johnson, Brother Dennis Johnson.
Danny is survived by his wife Glenda Jean Johnson; his mother Lavonna “Tiny” Johnson; Children Jimmy Johnson and his wife Robynn ; Bobby Johnson and Susan Bilderback, Michele Elliott and Rob Layton; Michael Johnson and wife Robin; and Deon Rogers; Grandchildren: Aaron Rogers, Braden Elliott, Conner Johnson, Dillon Johnson, Ella Rae Johnson, Brett Williams, Austin Williams, Jesseca Layton, and Kayla Trask; Great Grandchild: Kensleigh Calderon; Brother in Laws Lynn Burchfield and wife Rhonda, and Harmon Nelson and wife Joyce; and his beloved pet Angel.
