Dale Eugene Johnson

Dale was born Jan. 16, 1930, in Mitchell, Ind., to Delbert and Estel Johnson. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force at the age of 18 and served in the Berlin Airlift, Korean War and the Vietnam War.

Dale retired from the Air Force as a tech sergeant in November 1968 after 20 years of dedicated service.

Dale also retired with the Texas State Technical Institute after 22 years.

Dale married Ms. Wanda Lynn Martin on June 6, 1953, in Amarillo, where his Air Force career took them to England and many other places.

Dale enjoyed working outside, taking care of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved the Lord and was a deacon with Village Park Church, where he attended for 30 years. Throughout Dale's life, he touched the lives of many people with generosity and kindness.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Larry and Donald; four sisters, Louise Wilson, Janette Terry, Roberta Foust and Ruthie Terry; a grandson, Timothy Dale Johnson; a son-in-law, Mike Hill; and a daughter-in-law, Janet Johnson.

Survivors include his wife, Wanda; sons, Gary and wife Lois of Cleburne and David and wife Orfelinda of Amarillo; a daughter, Debbie Hill of Amarillo; 10 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
