Clarence S. “Sam” Roberts, 72, of Amarillo died Friday, Feb. 17, 2012. Memorial services will be at 7 p.m. Thursday in Grace Church with Bill Gehm, pastor, officiating. Arrangements are by Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 E. Interstate 40. Sam was born March 4, 1939, in Borger. He graduated from Stinnett High School, where he played football. He lived for
several years in Fritch, where he was past president of the chamber of commerce. Sam worked for and retired from Phillips Petroleum after 25 years of service. He was very active in Grace Church, where he taught fourth-grade boys in the children’s ministry. He dedicated his life to helping the community and serving his Lord. He coached girls softball and volleyball and was the chairman of the Homeschool Rockets Sports Association and co-chairman of the High Plains Christian Athletic Association volleyball. His deepest love was for his wife, Juanita, whom he met and married, taking on her three children and made them his own. They later added their fourth, and last child. Sam was dedicated to his family, participating in each of their sports, activities and education. He and his wife later raised and home schooled two of their grandchildren. Sam was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 43 years, Juanita Merle Roberts; two brothers; and his parents. He is survived and loved by his children, Ray Parker of Grapevine, Karen and husband Tom Gordon, Tanya and husband David Kane, and Stuart and wife Camelia Roberts; his grandchildren, Tonacey, Russell, Christopher, Bryan, Krystal, Scott, Mikki, Nikki, Kendra and Te’Mera; and 16 great-grandchildren, with one more on the way. He is also survived by his sisters and a brother, Anna Pearl Smith, Henrietta Hedy Church, Sue Miller, Bobbie Garlington and RC Dody Roberts; and many nieces and nephews.
