Memorial services will be at 4 p.m. Saturday in Griggs-Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors Pioneer Chapel, 5400 S. Bell St., with Hal Rogers, pastor of Pleasant Valley Christian Church, officiating.
Charles was born Sept. 5, 1923, in Aberdeen, Scotland. He immigrated to the United States at the age of 3. He grew up in Seattle. He was a World War II veteran and served honorably in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1941 to 1945. During his service, he served with the 2nd Marine Division and the III Amphibious Corps in the Pacific Theater.
Charles spent the last 45 years as a resident of Amarillo. He was employed by the Department of Energy, Los Alamos, N.M., and Sandia National Labs, Albuquerque, N.M. He later joined Silas Mason Corp. and worked in San Antonio from 1959 to 1966. He also worked for the same company at Pantex in Amarillo from 1966 to 1986. During his career, he worked in the accounting field.
During his retirement, he was a life member of the 2nd Marine Division Association. Charles volunteered and served on the Amarillo People's Federal Credit Union, and in the Amarillo Area Adult Literacy Council Program. Charles was an avid sports fan, who also enjoyed reading and spending time with his family.
Charles was a loving father, husband and brother.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude and appreciation to the staff members at Ussery-Roan Texas State Veterans Home and Odyssey Hospice, for the loving care they provided to our father.
Charles was preceded in death by his loving wife of 58 years, Eva J. Cordell; his parents, James and Williamina Scott; and his brother, James Scott.
Survivors include two sisters, Margaret Olson of Bothell, Wash., and Violet Saunders of Belmont, Calif.; two sons, Brian Scott and wife Margaret of Frisco and Dale Scott of Amarillo; a daughter, Sally Bryn and husband Mark of Beaverton, Ore.; and five wonderful grandchildren, Patrick Scott, Michael Scott, David Scott, Tana Bryn and Andy Bryn.
