Carl Williams, a Tennessee native who lived 72 years in Amarillo, passed from this life on Monday, Sept., 20, 2010. He was 99 years young.
Carl was born Aug. 26, 1911, in West Port, Tenn., to William Elvis and Mary Eta Tucker Williams. He lived and grew up in West Tennessee, and moved to Amarillo in 1937 during the Great Depression.
He worked for 35 years as a shipping clerk for Pinkney Packing Co., retired for one year, and then went to work at Amarillo Packing Co. for five years. He loved to go quail and dove hunting, and in his later years, he helped tend a 5-acre vegetable garden.
Carl married the love of his live, Louise Blount, on Aug. 8, 1938. In a world where a promise is quite often too easily broken, they lived out their commitment to each other, having been married for 72 years.
Carl was a dedicated Christian man. If the North Amarillo Church of Christ was unlocked, he was probably there, and his brothers and sisters in Christ loved and appreciated him. He will be missed, but we didn't lose him. His Heavenly Father is taking care of him now.
The family wishes to express deep thanks to Odyssey Hospice and to everyone who had a part in his care.
Survivors include his wife, Louise; two sons, Charles and wife Sharon, Dennis and wife Patty, all of Amarillo; four grandchildren, Carl and wife Angie, Kimberly, Andrew and Jennifer; four great-grandchildren, Stetson, Destiny, Haley, and Hannah; and a great-great-grandchild, Liberty.
