Carl was born in Amarillo, Texas on January 23, 1932, to Walter William Elliott and Neva Lyle Henderson and went to live with his heavenly father on April 4th, 2023. Services are scheduled for Friday, April 7, 2023, at 10 AM at St. Paul Methodist Church, with Pastor Bill Ivins officiating. Special music by Billy Talley and pianist Jennie Lynn Hodges.
Carl was baptized at an early age at Buchanan Street Methodist Church and was a lifelong Methodist. At the time of his passing, he was a member of St. Paul Methodist Church in Amarillo, United Church of Angel Fire, and Idlewild Community Church. He sang in the choir, taught Sunday school and worked on many committees. Carl was a proud 1950 graduate of Amarillo High School. He worked for the United States Postal Service from 1955 to 1990 where he started as a carrier and finished as the safety officer. He was honorably discharged in 1992 from the United States Navy Reserve “See Bees” after 42 years of service. He retired as Chief Construction Electrician. Carl was recognized as a Master Mason for more than 54 years and a member of San Jacinto Lodge #1330. He was a life member of the NRA. Carl’s favorite place on earth was with family and friends at the cabin in Lakeview Pines outside Eagle’s Nest, New Mexico. He enjoyed 32 years of retirement, spending much of each year hiking, fishing, and skiing in the mountains, where he was known as “the most aggressive” marble player on planet Earth! The Boy Scouts of America was dear to Carl. He was a proud Eagle Scout. Both sons and a grandson also are Eagle Scouts. He was a Cub Scout, Sea Scout leader, and was Scout Master for Troop 86, sponsored by St. Paul Methodist Church. He remained on the troop’s committee for many years, well after his children were grown, and he pinned the Eagle Scout honor badge on 65 Eagle Scouts, at their request. Carl married Lura Lindley in July of 1970 at San Jacinto Methodist Church. They were blessed with two sons Evan Lynn and Jeremy Ray. As age came, many times Carl and Lura altered retirement plans to allow them to attend funerals honoring countless numbers of their contemporaries. Still, he built tree houses, plumbed add-ons, wired up basements, and never had to put a car in a shop until the mid-90s. He could fix about anything, and there’s no telling where he could have soared had he been offered the educational opportunities he made available to his children. Carl could make people laugh and feel good about it, feared God but neither hard work nor afternoon naps, and he cared for friends and strangers alike. Exemplary behavior!
He was preceded in death by his parents; bonus mother, Dollie, and Brothers Howard and Robert.
Carl is survived by wife, Lura Elliott; Sons, Evan (Myra) and Jeremy (Tiffany); Sisters, Lynnell Hodel and Jean Lahrs; Sister-in-law, Ann Logsdon; Four grandchildren, Hunter, Tanner, Lucinda, and Arlo; and numerous nieces, nephews and bonus family.
In lieu of flowers, the Family requests memorials to St. Paul Methodist Church or a charity of your choice.
