Billy Don York

He was born April 8, 1947 in Wichita Falls, Texas to Cortez and Mary Ellen York.

Billy Don joined the Navy after being in the Reserves during High School. He joined the Navy in 1965 and served 2 years. Soon after, in 1973, he joined the Marines. During the Vietnam War, Billy was on a Destroyer Escort guarding the USS Enterprise. He served in the Marines for 2 years, ending his service in 1975. Billy Don married the love of his life Delila Byrd on July 25, 1969, spending 52 wonderful years. Together they raised 4 children. He was a proud, loving Father who was dedicated to his family. He was a hard worker for ASARCO for 32 years before retiring at the age of 71. Billy was a crazy sports fan, he would watch anything sports related no matter if it was football or badminton, but UT was his team, he was a big fan. His idea of the perfect weekend was to attend a basketball game on Friday, football on Saturday and hockey on Sunday.

He is survived by his wife Delila York, 3 sons; Billy Don York JR. and wife Susan of Mckinney Texas, Dustin York and wife Kindle of Amarillo, Texas, Danny York and wife Roxane of Amarillo, Texas, 9 grandchildren; and 1 great-grandchild; one brother; Roger York and wife Joann.

Billy Don is preceded in death by his parents, daughter April York, and 1 brother James York.

He will be missed by both family and friends.
