Betty was born January 4, 1933 in Mangum, Oklahoma to Dan and Ona Belle Youngblood, she was one of 5 kids. She went to school and graduated in Reed, Oklahoma. Betty’s sister Marie moved to Amarillo so Betty did as well. She got a job working at Woolworths and was enjoying her independence. Her sister set her up on a blind date to the movies in June with who would eventually become the love of her life. Soon after that her new love was leaving as he was in the Air Force. He proposed and Betty said… No! Not once, not twice, but three times. Luckily for all of us he was persistent. He proposed to her the last time by mail AND sent her rings in the mail. Ok, she finally gave in and they were married just 6 months later in December 1952. They were married for 59 years before he went to heaven before her. Even though she didn’t have to be, she was an amazing mom to two girls that certainly gave her challenges on a daily basis. Once her youngest daughter was in high school she went to work for A.I.S.D. as a teacher’s aide at Whittier Elementary School. Her grandson was one of her main joys in her life. Once she became Ma to him, she became Ma to everyone. The love and pride that she had in him was beyond compare. She was active in church as a Sunday School Teacher and choir member. She loved God, her family, and friends. When she laughed, everyone… and I mean EVERYONE knew that it was her. She had the most recognizable, infectious laugh ever.
Betty is survived by her daughter; Jamie Lane Tarr of Amarillo, one grandson; Joseph King of Amarillo, one great- grandchild; Ellie Jae King, one brother; Bob Youngblood of Florida.
