Betty M. Carter, 83, of Amarillo, TX, died Sunday, December 11, 2011. Services are scheduled for 2 PM Thursday, December 15, 2011, in the Chapel of Memories at Memorial Park Funeral Home, located at 6969 I-40 East, Amarillo, TX. Pastor Jim Gose will be officiating. A graveside service will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mrs. Carter was born February 19, 1928, in Meadow, TX, to Henry Lee Wright and Naomi Bingham. She married Oscar Payton Carter on September 21, 1946, in Brownfield, TX. She was a wonderful cook and loved to fish and bowl. She was well known for her fried chicken and apricot fried pies. She was active in the Grand Avenue Baptist Church for 50 years and was active in the Red Hat Society. She loved to play dominoes and various card games.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, as well as her brother, Kenneth Wright.
She is survived by her son, Royce Carter and wife Jonda of Fort Worth, TX; her daughter,
Frances Carter Jackson of Pearland, TX; her brother, Maurice Wright of Snyder, TX; sisters, Letha Wayland of Big Spring, TX, and Billie Beard of Amarillo, TX. In addition, she had three great-grandchildren: Jordan and Jackson Waguespack of Irving, TX, and Chailee Odle of Fort Worth, TX.
The family requests that memorials be made to Grand Avenue Baptist Church/General Fund, 904 N. Grand Ave., Amarillo, TX 79107.
