Preceded in death are her parents, William and Lena Schramling, her loving husband of 62 years, Bennie Wilson, son, Barton Wilson, daughter in law, Sharon Wilson, one sister, and three brothers. She leaves behind son, Brian Wilson and daughter-in-law Salli, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews, and many friends.
Bette was born in Woodward, Oklahoma in 1928. She and her family were part of the greatest generation that grew up during the depression and then fought in World War II. During high school she worked as a telephone operator for 10 cents an hour. In 1946 she and Bennie borrowed a car to elope to Kansas to get married. In 1947 it was by the grace of God that she and Bennie survived the big Woodward tornado, the deadliest tornado in Oklahoma history. In 1956 Bennie’s job with the Santa Fe Railroad brought them to Amarillo Texas where they lived for over 50 years. She was a loving caring mother for her two sons and a supportive wife. Bette and family loved camping, and she was very proud that she and Ben had spent the night in all 50 states. She loved genealogy and had traced her family back to the ship they came over on in the 1600’s. She loved to cook and was also a great dog lover. Bette was known for her good sense of humor and for her detailed memory of days past. She was a member of the Covenant Fellowship Church for many years.
Bette moved to Mountain City, Texas in 2013 to reside with Brian and Salli Wilson. She loved their sunroom where she could sit and watch the birds and deer. She loved to read poetry, cowboy poetry (her father was a real cowboy), and mystery novels, and watch Jeopardy, Wheel Of Fortune, and the Texas Rangers.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Heart to Heart Hospice, HtoHHFoundation.org, or to the Covenant Fellowship Church of Amarillo, 1733 S Avondale St, Amarillo, TX 79106, would be welcomed.
