Barbara Ann Phillips Evans, age 86, passed away peacefully on November 15, 2024, in Lubbock, Texas. She was born on December 14, 1937, in Brownfield, Texas, to J.N. and Eula Mae Jones Phillips. Barbara married her beloved husband, James Leroy Evans, on May 22, 1956. Together, they relocated to Amarillo, Texas, in 1959, where they built a loving home. A dedicated professional, Barbara served as the seminary extension registrar for the Amarillo Baptist Association from 1975 until her retirement in 2002. She was deeply committed to her faith, being a longtime and active member of Southlawn Baptist Church, where she touched many lives through her kindness and service.
Barbara is survived by her two daughters: Sherry Diann Evans Holcomb and her husband, Rick, of Centennial, Colorado, and Glenna June Evans Ervin and her husband, David, of Lubbock, Texas. She was a proud grandmother to Erica Ervin Marrs and her husband, Landen, Philip Holcomb and his wife, Kasie, and Austin Ervin and his wife, Bethann. Barbara cherished her role as a great-grandmother to Grayson Holcomb, Raylan Marrs, Barrett Marrs, Oscar Ervin, Emrey Holcomb, Ruby Ervin, and J.J. Ervin. She is also survived by her sister, Melba Phillips McKee.
Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, James Leroy Evans, and her parents, Eula Mae Jones Phillips and J.N. Phillips. A celebration of Barbara's life will be held at Southlawn Baptist Church, where friends and family may gather to share memories of her love, kindness, and the indelible mark she left on all who knew her.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Southlawn Baptist Church in her memory. Barbara's warmth, grace, and unwavering faith will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
