Memorial services will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 9, 2016 at Griggs-Schooler-Gordon Funeral Home Pioneer Chapel with Pastor Jerry Davey officiating. Arrangements are by Griggs Schooler Gordon Funeral Directors.
Inurnment will be in Llano Cemetery with military honors.
Arthur “Art” James Barker was born November 22, 1948 to Thomas E. and Norma Lee Barker in Seguin. He attended Seguin High School and on his 17th birthday he joined the US Marine Corp. Arthur was active military from 1965 to 1978, serving two and a half tours in Viet Nam with the Ugly Angels Squadron HMM 362 and fighting in the Tet offensive. His many decorations and medals include Expert Rifle Badge, Sharpshooter Pistol Badge, Combat Action Ribbon, Navy Achievement Medal with "V" Device, Vietnam Service Medal with 8 Devices, Air Medal with 2 Devices, Navy Unit Commendation, 3 Meritorious Unit Commendations, National Defense Service Medal, Combat Aircrew Insg with 3 Stars and Good Conduct Medal with 2 stars. Upon his return stateside he was a drill instructor in California. In civilian life Arthur was a sales coordinator for G.M. International Corp. for goods importation and was transferred to Mexico where he developed his love for the country and its people. He retired in 1995. Art was a great friend and an amazing person, true, honest, funny and, most of all, unique. A Texan thru and thru.
Arthur was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Scott James Barker.
Arthur is survived by his wife Terri Tomlinson Barker; a daughter, Christina Marie Barker of Flagstaff, Arizona; a brother, Gerald Lee Barker and wife Kay of La Paz, Mexico; two step-brothers, Wesley Robert Schultz and Ralph W. Schultz of San Antonio; a granddaughter, Danica Roybal of Flagstaff, Arizona; a nephew, Benjamin Charles-Thomas Barker and a great-nephew, Cooper Hall Barker.
The family suggests memorials be sent to the Veterans Resource Center at Family Support Services, 1001 S. Polk, Amarillo, Texas, 79101.
