Alice was born on March 15, 1929 in Lubbock, Texas to Ruben James and Annie Bell (Jackson) Owens. She was a beautician earning her license in Clovis New Mexico in 1957. It was her occupation her entire working life. Also a 60 plus year member of the Rebekah's holding nearly every office in those years from Noble Grand and many more.
She had many Rebekah sisters that loved her and loved to get together and play Skip Bo and numerous card and domino games. She loved playing with her Children, Grand Children and Great Grandchildren; she loved all kinds of board games. She took great delight in winning and when her Great great-grandsons were playing her and she lost, they teased her about losing it and later told us that they thought Granny let them win. I told them that if they beat Granny they did it fair and square as Granny was not about to "let them win".
She also loved crocheting and mastered at it. She made hundreds of items that she freely gave to family and friends. Everyone of us probably have something she made for us. She had a desire to read and devoured hundreds of paperbacks, loved westerns and old western movies and would
watch them repeatedly. She loved John Wayne movies.
Mom was a woman who knew the Lord, she and I had many conversation around the bible and studied it with a desire to understand the word of God and what He was saying to us about our time on this earth, and the reward awaiting true believers. I have no doubt about where she is today, walking with the Lord and our loved ones.
Alice was proceeded in death by her husband, Brewer H Holmes, her parents Ruben J and Annie Bell Owens, a grandson Patrick Lawrence (Rick) Owens; and four siblings, James, Pauline, Lawrence (Larry) and Clois. She is survived by her daughter Lee Woodard and Husband Frank. Her son Gerald Owens and wife Mary, Four Grandchildren, 21 Great Grandchildren and 20 Great Great Grandchildren. Two sisters Bernice Richards and Theressa Bradley and husband James. Many Nieces and nephews who loved their Aunt Alice.
