Nancy Jean Sigler

1923 - 2021

Nancy Baumgartner Sigler went home to be with the Lord on January 14, 2021, at the age of 97 in Longwood, Florida. Nancy was born an only child to Daphne and Paul Baumgartner on March 2, 1923 in Winona, Minnesota.

Her elementary school days were spent in Minneapolis, Minnesota and Seattle, Washington. She then made her way back to Winona, Minnesota for Junior and Senior High. Nancy attended Duke University in Durham, North Carolina where she pledged Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority and received a Bachelor of Arts. On the train back to school following Christmas vacation her freshman year, she met Bill Sigler whom following graduation became her husband for 63 years. Bill and Nancy had two children, Nancy Jean Sigler and William M. Sigler III. As a family, due to Bill’s 30 year career as a United States Marine, they traveled to duty stations throughout the country from the west to the east coast. During their Marine Corps career, Nancy had many volunteer leadership positions which were both social and volunteer positions with Navy Relief. Nancy was also a true artist, with a passion for writing poetry, painting and drawing. She published a book of poems titled Observations in Poetry which was enjoyed by friends and family alike. Nancy was an avid sports fan. Watching her Duke Blue Devils on the court was one of her favorite things. She was also quite the competitor, joining the Bocce Ball, Horseshoes, Bridge and Wii bowling teams during her time at Village on the Green. Nancy loved her role as a grandmother and great grandmother, always attending various sporting events, concerts and ceremonies to show her support. Nancy will be remembered as an outgoing, loving, sassy and spirited woman. Her vivaciousness and charisma will be remembered by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Nancy is survived by her Daughter, Nancy Sigler Trathowen, Granddaughters, Carolyn Trathowen Sims and Debbie Sigler Deans, Grandson, William Sigler and Great grandchildren, Payton Sims, Paxton Sims, Meredith Sigler, Natalie Deans, Evan Deans and Patrick Sigler. Nancy is preceded in death by her husband, Bill Sigler and son, William M. Sigler III.

A service will be held in the upcoming weeks in Quantico, Virginia at the National Ceremony for the family.
