Maurice Glen Prusia was born in Lincoln, Nebraska, on August 18, 1930. He grew up in various areas of the country and met the love of his life, Marie Veltman, at Fletcher Academy in North Carolina but didn’t date until they met up again at Washington Missionary College in Takoma Park, Maryland. They married in the home of their best friends, Alan and Helen Hale, on October 18, 1952, in Takoma Park.
Maurice received his Pharmacy degree from Mercer College in Atlanta, Georgia, and did his residency at Florida Sanitarium and Hospital before moving to Clearwater, Florida, to work in retail pharmacy for a number of years. In 1962, the family moved to Greensboro, NC, for a year and a half so he could get some hospital experience. Then in 1964, he took a position at Florida Hospital as Director of the Pharmacy where he remained for about 28 years before retiring.
Not wanting to get to bored or in Marie’s words, he needed to have something to do, he went into Pharmacy consulting work for a few years. But then grandchildren came and Maurice and Marie were more than happy to help with the grandchildren. They both admitted that having grandchildren was their reward for having children because grandchildren were more fun.
Maurice was preceded in death by Marie, who died in 2014. Maurice died after being recently diagnosed with Stage 4 Metastatic Kidney Cancer with liver and bone mets. He had prayed that he would not have a lingering illness prior to passing and God answered his prayers. Last week, when he was started on hospice care, he talked with Pastor Bob Boggess and Pastor Chandler Tarbox and told them he was ready to go to sleep in Jesus because the next thing he would see was Jesus and Marie’s faces. He said he wanted his whole family in heaven with them for all of eternity.
Maurice and Marie leave behind their daughter, Valarie and her son Eric and Dirk (Rick) and his wife Alison, and their sons Griffin (wife Katie), and Judson (wife Raeann).
Maurice and Marie were long-time (legacy) members of Spring Meadows SDA church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to their favorite charity, the Becker Technology Suite at Spring Meadows SDA Church. Make checks payable to Spring Meadows with “Becker Tech Fund” in memo line. The church address is 5783 North Ronald Reagan Blvd, Sanford, FL 32773.
Our prayer is that all our family and friends are ready for Jesus’ soon return. Please join us on that great day.
