Elda "Ellie" Nichols passed away on November 27, 2015. She was born in Flint, Michigan. She and her husband, Nick, who predeceased her in 2010, moved to Florida in 1954 from Kingsville, Texas. She was a professional photographer and opened a studio in Sanford. She loved animals and saved countless dogs and cats. She had a great sense of humor and saw the funny side of life. Active in the PTO’s and PTA’s in school, she was also a Den mother; a Pink Lady when the S. Seminole Hospital first opened; a long-time member and officer in the Longwood Civic League Woman’s Club; a member of the First Florida Poets in Deland; a member of the Happy Hoofers Sr. Dance Troupe for 15 years; a member of the Woman’s Club of Casselberry and the Central Florida Historical Society of Longwood. An exciting moment in her life occurred when she won a beautiful Mercury car from the old Ed Sullivan TV show, by finishing a jingle and having it presented on TV. She was a correspondent and photographer for the Orlando Sentinel and, later, the Sanford Herald, writing feature stories. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Longwood. Survivors include sons, Gregory Nichols (Eleonore) of Texas, and Bret Nichols (Ingrid) of Deltona, Florida; granddaughter, Elisha Smith (Travis); great-granddaughters, Emma and Ella Smith; nephews, Mike Mikkola of Sanford, Florida and Tom Nichols of Cleveland, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, a donation in her memory may be made to any animal shelter of your choice.
