Gertrude Urban

Gertrude Marie Urban passed away on August 21, 2024 at the age of 97. She was born in Elizabeth, Pennsylvania to the late Charles and Florence Rippel on May 24, 1927. Gertrude left this world behind leaving a legacy of love and faithfulness to her family and to all that knew her.

She was preceded in death by her parents Charles and Florence Rippel; her husband of 65 years, Edward Urban; and her brothers James Rippel and Charles Rippel. She is survived by her son, James Urban; daughters Chris (Renny) Betris and Beverly (Charles) Jones; her grandchildren Jason (Renee) Kornegay, Rachel Reeves, Kim Kornegay, Brett Betris, Nikki Betris, Gabriela Urban and Alejandra Urban; great grandchildren Devin Reeves, Lincoln Reeves, Jack Reeves and Stella Kornegay.

Her greatest joy in life was being with her family and she loved telling the many stories of her childhood growing up in Pennsylvania. She was a devoted Pittsburgh, Steelers fan. In 1955 Gertrude and Edward moved to Baltimore, Maryland for a job with Martin Marietta and in 1957 transferred to Orlando where they remained.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Gertrude’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, a charity that was very important to her (stjude.org)
