“A devoted army wife who gave her all for family and community” Gail Patricia Jones passed away on January 9 after a long illness. Gail was born on June 19, 1938 in Clinton, Iowa to her late parents Harold and Lura Hinshaw. On September 1, 1957, Gail married Joel D. Jones, then a student at the University of Iowa. While helping her husband complete his studies, she also began her preparation for a long and distinguished career as a devoted Army wife. Her untiring support to her husband and four children was always present at multiple foreign and stateside postings. She especially excelled in keeping her family safe while her husband served two years in Vietnam. During the nearly 30 years of military life, Gail developed her love of helping her community wherever her family settled. Her love for gardening and landscaping always had a lasting impression on the beautification of her home and neighborhood. Gail loved her weekend visits to the local farmers market, always to get her favorite chocolate croissant, followed with frequent stops at a garage and estate sales. She cherished an opportunity to buy an old piece of furniture and refinish it to true antique beauty. She loved her private moments of gardening, doing yoga with her friends, and the every Sunday brunch with her dearest friends. She was preceded in passing by her cousin, Norma Weaver. Gail is survived by her husband, Colonel Joel Jones; her brother, Harold Hinshaw Jr. of West Dundee, IL; her son, Curtis Jones of Altamonte Springs, FL; and daughters Kelly Henson of Omaha, NB, Nancy Holton of Kaufman, TX, and Julie Dorney of Winter Springs, FL. She cherished and loved her 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held on January 13 from 5-8pm at Baldwin Fairchild West Altamonte, 90 Weathersfield Ave., Altamonte Springs. Service will follow January 14 at 10am at the chapel. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Donations may be made to the Central Florida “Y” Youth Scholarship Program in lieu of flowers.
