Edwin Dwaine Berry, 89, Passed away peacefully in his home on October 8th, 2022 surrounded by those he loved! He was born to Ed and Dolly Berry in 1933 and worked in the oil fields until he enlisted in the Marines on 3/17/1958.
He began his Marine career with the Marine Detachment on the USS Boxer CVA21. Then was with the Nuclear Weapons Guard in Air Station, El Toro, CA. Then a Tactics Instructor for the Infantry Training Regiment in Camp Pendleton, CA. He then became a Drill Instructor for the Marine Corps. Recruit Depot in San Diego, CA. From there he became an Instructor for the Sea School MCRD in San Diego, CA. After that he became a Platoon Sergeant at Camp Pendleton. He was a Platoon Sergeant as well in Okinawa, Japan and Vietnam. He rose through the ranks as a Guard Chief, then Assistant Brig Warden and Training Chief at Treasure Island Naval base. From there he became the Assistant Operations Chief for the 3rd Marine Division in Vietnam. He continued to climb the ranks of the Marines. He became the Training Chief for the 31st Naval Construction Regiment in Port Hueneme, CA. Then was First Sergeant with the USS Springfield in Gaeta, Italy. He was a First Sergeant for the Sea School Marine Headquarters Company. Then became Sergeant Major for the Headquarters Battalion with the Marine Corps and The 2nd Recruit Training Battalion at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego, CA. Lastly, Edwin Berry was the Sergeant Major with the Recruiting Station in Orlando, Florida. Edwin D. Berry, retired from the Marines on 8/01/1979 as a Sergeant Major!

He met his first wife Gloria in California. Ed and Gloria had two children together, Sharon and Steve in addition to his Step-children George and Nancy. They divorced after his tour in Vietnam.
He met Ray, his 2nd wife in the late 60’s after she hit his car in the parking lot of the NCO club where she worked. A friend of his made sure she stayed there until Ed came out. He and Ray married and he adopted Tracy as his daughter.They shared a life together until Ray passed away in 2016. Ed and Ray lived across the street from Saul and Betty Rendon and were family friends to the Rendon Family!
After Ray Berry passed away in 2016, and Saul Rendon passed in 2014, he formed a strong friendship with Betty Rendon. They married on October 26th, 2019 and he gained a beautiful wife and 3 more Step-children, Saul, Kimberly and Adriana.
He is survived by his wife Betty Rendon, his children Sharon, Nancy, Tracy, Saul, Kimberly and Adriana. His Grandchildren, Jamie, Brandon, Stephanie, Sara, Nathan, Travis, Javi, Gabe, Mandy, Katie, Bella and Drew and Great-grandchildren.
