Doris Elizabeth Hicks Young, affectionately known to all as "Granny," passed away peacefully on April 6, 2025, in Lake Mary, Florida, at the age of 92. A beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Doris lived a life rooted in faith and family.
Born on July 1, 1932, in Royston, Georgia, Doris was the cherished daughter of Melzie Mae and Joseph Milton Hicks. She grew up surrounded by love and strong values that would guide her throughout her life. Doris later married James Robert Young, with whom she shared a devoted marriage of 67 years until his passing on May 17, 2024. Their enduring bond was a testament to their unwavering commitment and love.
Doris’s greatest joy came from her family. She was the proud mother of two daughters, Melinda "Lindy" Hayes and Sonya Brauer. Her legacy continued through her grandchildren—Morgan Hayes, Shannon Brauer, and Dustin Brauer with his wife Sydni Brauer—and her great-grandson Braxton Hayes. Known simply as “Granny” to all who loved her, this title was one she held most dear.
A woman of profound Christian faith, Doris lived each day with grace and devotion. Her deep belief in God was evident in every aspect of her life. She found strength and purpose through her spirituality and was a source of comfort and inspiration to those around her.
She now rejoins her beloved husband James R. Young; her parents Melzie Mae and Joseph Milton Hicks; her sister Willie Jo Roberson; and her daughter Brenda Gail Young in eternal peace.
