In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the United States Navy Memorial
www.navymemorial.org The United States Navy Memorial’s mission is to Honor,
Recognize, and celebrate the men and women of the Sea Services, past, present, and
future; and inform the public about their service. Mr. Joiner supported this memorial
throughout his life.
Mr. Joiner was a true patriot. He loved God, his country, his family and friends, the UCF
Golden Knights and the FOX news network.
Very active until two years ago, Mr. Joiner could be found exercising in the mornings at
the Planet Fitness in Oviedo or possibly hitting some golf balls with his sons, son-in-law
or grandson or picking strawberries at Pappy’s Patch with his granddaughter.
He has really missed all of his work out buddies over the last two years.
A UCF season football ticket holder since 1986, he was the ultimate tail-gating fan!
A special thank you to the medical community that has assisted Mr. Joiner and his family
through the last two years, specifically the staff at the Oviedo Medical Center, ICU
nurses, doctors and specifically the Respiratory Therapists and Dr. Ashraf Luqman, MD.
Your care and compassion helped to make this journey an uplifting experience.
“A defender, protector, supporter, victor, a warrior, the last of the breed from an era when
ships were made of wood and men were made of steel.
The Old Salt has reported for duty that takes him away from us for now.
Those of us who remain behind, remember, and will continue to remember, because he
now resides forever in our hearts.
As I look up at night, I envision The Old Salt, a beret draped just above the eye, as he
draws upon his pipe, quietly he waits, the guardian of heaven’s gate.”
