Catherine Margaret McCaffrey

She was born on April 22, 1932 in Castletara, County Cavan, Ireland to the late Patrick Costello and Anne (Morrow) Costello. She immigrated to the United States from Ireland in 1950 and made her home in New York City. She started work as a waitress in Schrafft’s Restaurant and was eventually promoted to Head Hostess. She met Peter McCaffrey on New Year’s Eve in 1956 and they married on June 27, 1959. She and Peter went on to establish their own successful travel business, Oakwood Travel, in Woodside, New York until their retirement. They moved to Florida in 2003 and after Peter’s death in 2004 Catherine settled in the City of Winter Park, Florida and became an active member of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church.

Catherine was preceded in death by her husband, Peter B. McCaffrey, and her brothers, Michael, Jimmy, John and Benny Costello. She is survived by her five children: Kate Morrow McCaffrey, Anne Schultz (Joseph), Eilish McCaffrey, Dan McCaffrey and Patrick McCaffrey. She was a beloved mother and also a doting grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her two grandsons, Christopher Schultz and Callum McCaffrey.

In lieu of flowers the family invites you to consider making a donation to the previously established “Peter and Catherine McCaffrey Endowment Fund” at Bishop Moore Catholic High School in Orlando, Florida. The fund was established in 2016 and provides financial assistance for an incoming freshman student. A funeral mass will be held at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Winter Park on Friday, March 10, 2023 at 11am. An additional funeral mass will be held at St. Sebastian’s Church in Woodside, New York on April 21, 2023 at 10:45am followed by interment in Calvary Cemetery also in Woodside.
