John was born on August 27, 1949 in Allendale, IL to Walter LeRoy “Roy”and Mary Elizabeth (Mullinax) Simmons.
John was employed as a pipefitter/welder for the Local #136 for forty years.
He married Jane Robinson on November 3, 1985 in St. Francisville, IL. and they have celebrated almost 30 years of companionship and love.
John cherished his children and grandchildren; and kept the road busy from his house to theirs, always making the time together special.
He had a heart full of compassion for those that were less fortunate, and spent countless hours working in the food banks at the Heart of Hope House and Bridges of Hope ministries. John was an active member of the Heartland Worship Center in Mt. Carmel, IL.
He was a true animal lover; caring for his pets; which became members of the family.
John’s passing leaves a void; however, nothing would give him more joy than for his family and friends to keep his spirit alive by being kind to those that the majority have forgotten.
John was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Victor Simmons and one brother-in-law, Levi Litherland, Jr.
He will be missed by his wife, Jane, daughter Holli (Tommy Little) Simmons-Little, son Tom (Suzi) Robinson. He was Papaw of: Luke, Cooper and Everlee, and Grandpa of: Delsie, Delanie and Drew. He is also survived by his sister, Ann Litherland, and four brothers: Ronald (Beverly) Simmons, Bill (Faye) Simmons, Sid (Nancy) Simmons and Gary Simmons. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and his beloved cats.
A Celebration of a Life Lived for Others will be held on Monday, November 3, 2014 at 1PM at Ingram Funeral Home in Allendale, IL. Burial will follow at Adams Corner Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 11AM to 1PM.
The family asks that memorials be directed to either the Heart of Hope House, Bridges of Hope or the Wabash County Shelter Buddies, with envelopes provided at the funeral home.
