Shirley was born November 15, 1930 at 730 South Fairfax St, Alexandria, VA and passed away January 30, 2021 at Westminster at Lake Ridge, VA. Daughter of Samuel Milton Embrey and Nettie Glendora (Speiss) Embrey. She attended elementary school in Alexandria, VA and graduated from George Washington High School in Alexandria.
She went on to graduate from Scott Community College as well as the University of Iowa, in 1974, with a degree in Practical Nursing. Before that she attended Walter Academy Modeling School in Baltimore, MD in 1958. Shirley worked in the Pentagon Adjutant General's Office, Inspector General's Office and Psychological Warfare Office. She later worked at the Radiation Biology Laboratory in Rockville, MD.
She married Wayne Kenneth Watkins from New Mexico in 1953. He predeceased her on October 24, 2008.
Shirley was a devoted wife and mother, and a devout Christian. Her commitment to family and faith was a boundless inspiration.
She and Wayne were always actively involved in the Church and would volunteer regularly. They led of a life of service; to God, each other, their family, and community.
She was an excellent homemaker, that really enjoyed cooking and baking.
She is survived by her two sons: Milton (Buck) Eugene Watkins and Dr. Roy (Chip) Wayne Watkins; her sister, Nettie (Sherry) Sharon Embrey; and her 5 grandchildren. Buck's Children: Brittany Ann Watkins, Bonnie Lynn (Watkins) D'Antonio, and Brian Watkins; Chip's Children: Caroline (Watkins) Marshall and Natalie Watkins.
She was a wonderful daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother. She will be missed and remembered by all who knew her.
