Dr. Sharon Sue Roberts of Alexandra, Va passed away Sunday, Dec.31 at her home. She was born March 22, 1951 to the late Claude Austin and Jean Biscoe Roberts. She is survived by her devoted husband Ed Crooks, two stepsons George Crooks (Andria ) James Crooks ( Ariel) & eight grandchildren, two sisters Gina Sedwick(Rodney) of Orange, Va, Yvette Peters ( Rick) of Richmond, Va and one brother Wayne Roberts(Karen) of Venice, Fl , along with many nieces & nephews.
Sharon’s college career started at the University of Florida, intending a career in Architecture. However, after one year, she transferred to The Medical College of Virginia, where she received a degree in Dental Hygiene. Unfulfilled by practicing Hygiene, she returned to MCV to get a Doctorate in Dentistry. She graduated from the Dental School in 1981. wishing to travel, she joined the Army, serving three years in Germany. She took every opportunity to explore Europe with friends.
Upon returning to the states, she started a successful practice in Arlington, Va where she practiced until she was diagnosed with a debilitating illness. Her love of knowledge & learning was a strong guiding force throughout her life. She had a strong ethic for work, given to her by her mother, she knew as Jean. Respect for her staff and patients was reflected in their affection for her.
She loved gardening and had a special talent for decorating which she shared with family & friends. Her home and garden showed off those talents. Sharon had a true zest for life and never wanted to stop learning or improving in whatever endeavor she took up. She was a true hero in dealing with the effects of her illness, never giving up and determined to live life to it’s fullest.
The family wishes to thank the incredible individuals who cared for Sharon, especially Edith who was there from the beginning & became like family. They shared their kindness, their love and never-ending devotion to her. Our gratitude is extended to Sharon’s special friends & neighbors who continuously stopped-by to check on her & showered her with food or flowers.
A celebration of Sharons life will be held on Saturday May 4,2024 from 4:00pm to 8:00pm at Laportas Restaurant 1600 Duke St, Alexandria VA 22314.
