Peter was born in Chicago, IL on February 17, 1958 to Maria Antonia Eireos and Pedro Manuel Alea. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Deborah Eudy Alea; son, Jason Pierce Alea; daughter, Jessica Rose Alea; sister, Lilia Grycz; niece, Cathy Blaesing; and nephew, David Grycz.
A proud Cubs fan, Peter was raised by Cuban-American immigrants in Chicago. In 1976 he moved to Melbourne, Florida where he attended the Florida Institute of Technology and obtained his degree in Ocean Engineering. In 1980 he moved to DC where he met his wife and went on to become an Aerospace Engineer. His professional accomplishments include working for NASA, where he was part of the team who helped repair the Hubble space telescope.
Peter was a lover of the water and great outdoors from a young age. He could often be found scuba diving, sailing, boating at the family’s lake house in Pennsylvania, traveling to National Parks, or bird watching in his backyard. He was also an avid hunter and dog owner for 18+ years, and was an AKC-recognized breeder of Flat-coated Retrievers.
A devoted husband, loving father, and caring brother, he is remembered for his infectious laugh and generous spirit.
Peter’s family and friends will gather for a celebration of his life at 6 pm on Friday, February 23, 2024 at Demaine Funeral Home, 520 S Washington Street, Alexandria, VA 22314. Interment at Ivy Hill Cemetery will take place on Saturday, February 24, 2024.
