Margaret (Meg) Carpenter of Alexandria, Virginia passed away on November 15, 2023 after battling a long series of illnesses. She was preceded by her parents, John and Sara Lunsford, and her sister, Sally Lunsford. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Richard Carpenter, her children, Thomas Carpenter and Amanda Christel, and her sister, Barbara Ziff.
A great storyteller, Meg had a wide breadth of life experience to draw from. Meg was involved with competitive diving as a teenager and ice skating as an adult. She worked as a secretary on Capitol Hill, trained in medical support and worked in a doctor’s office, and ran a children’s secondhand clothing shop that ultimately became a jewelry and antique store. She always strove to become an expert in all her passions, including pottery, jewelry, creative writing, and ferrets. She will be remembered as a force to be reckoned with.
Though there was a reception previously scheduled, due to the inclement weather conditions, the services for Margaret Carpenter will be rescheduled. Family and friends are invited to join a Celebration of Life reception at a later date at Demaine Funeral Home, 520 South Washington Street, Alexandria, VA. Demaine Funeral Home will update our website once the rescheduled date has been decided. Thank you for your understanding.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that those wishing to honor Meg’s memory consider a donation to their favorite animal rescue.
