Kae was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, and grew up in Toronto and Agincourt, Ontario. She graduated from the Macdonald Institutes in Guelph, Ontario, with a bachelor of Household Science. Her degree was granted from the University of Toronto in 1958. Upon graduation, she moved to Washington, D.C. She traveled extensively throughout Europe, Asia, and North America. She was an avid reader and enjoyed gardening. She proudly retained Canadian citizenship throughout her life.
She is survived by her husband of fifty-one years, Anthony Constandy of Alexandria; their sons, Peter of Alexandria, Michael and wife Denise of Alexandria; their daughter Elisabeth and husband Carl Baynard of Wilmington, NC; and four grandchildren. She was predeceased by their infant son, John Arthur, in 1965, and by her brother Michael in 2010.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday January 13, 2012, at Arlington National Cemetery. Family and friends are asked to meet at the Administration Building by 1:30 p.m.
The family would like to express gratitude to Kae’s caregiver, Ms. Isata Jabbie, and to the staff of Sunrise Mount Vernon and Evercare Hospice.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in memory of Kathleen Constandy to the American Horticultural Society at George Washington’s River Farm, 7931 East Boulevard Drive, Alexandria VA 22308.
