John F. Manning, 84, of Alexandria, VA, an authority on Military Mortuary Affairs, who served as a
Department of the Army civilian for over 29 years, four of those years in Army
Mortuaries in Vietnam, died on August 13, 2018.
John was born in Sayre, PA, grew up in Waverly, NY, and graduated from Waverly High
School in 1952. He graduated from Simmons School of Embalming and Mortuary
Science, Syracuse, NY, in September 1953.
He served in the US Army from November 12, 1954 to October 31, 1956.
Survivors include his wife, Quy T. Manning; two children, Lisa Manning of Alexandria, Virginia and Thomas
Manning, of Chantilly, Virginia; two sisters, Jane Roma of Endwell, New York
and Janet Frechet of Oakland, California; five grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
A viewing will be held at Demaine Funeral Home, 520 S. Washington St., Alexandria, VA 22314 on Friday, August 17 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm.
A Mass will take place at The Basilica of Saint Mary, 310 South Royal
Street in Alexandria, VA on Saturday August 18 at 10:30am followed by a burial at Mount Comfort Cemetery in Alexandria. www.demainefuneralhomes.com
