There are so many times, I still have to remind myself that Jean is no longer on the end of my phone line— so many things have happed in the Library of Congress and the Congressional Research Service and mutual friends which I  want to share with her. Hello! We're Jean's former neighbors (unit 417!) We moved about 4 years ago from DC to Lancaster PA to start our family and Jean was so excited for us! 

 She was just the sweetest and nicest neighbor, we loved living next her. We are so sad to learn of her passing. Sending love and comfort from Pennsylvania. 

I am heartbroken to hear about Jean’s passing.   My thoughts and prayers are with her family.  Jean and I shared many hours exchanging family genealogical information about our mutual Putman-Young-Wells lines.  She was an amazing woman; she will be missed.  I Love You  and Fly High My Dear Friend  



Jean Wells was my loyal and close friend for over sixty years and I will greatly miss our long distance, long time dialogue.   Many memories include escapades while we worked together at Wellesley College, travels to Martha Vineyard with much jelly making after gathering beach plums, my getting engaged in her living room, dinners accompanied by my  children who still remember her enthusiasm,  plum pudding making and Christmas gifts (including one she sent early this year to us because of COVID )and long catch-up telephone discussions of family, friends and current affairs.  Jeanie was a steady and dear buddy who always minimized her own accomplishments.  I am grateful for her curiosity, thoughtfulness, wit, friendship and reliability.  My condolences to her family.

Many of Jean's Wellesley's friends became mine.  She followed me to the Library of Congress where she excelled as a senior specialist in the Economics Division on the Congressional Research Service.  I will miss her friendship, kindness, and counsel.
