Betty Lou Nieman (nee Gehle), age 78, passed away peacefully on November 19, 2014. Her husband, Frank, preceded her in death (in 2007), as did brothers Delaine, David and Keith. Betty is survived by a large and loving family, including daughter, Loraine Nieman Hamilton (Greg), daughter, Donna Austin Schulze (Richard), son, Eric George Nieman (Charlene), daughter, Denise Nieman Eaton (Geoffrey), sister, Jean Meiring (Tom-deceased), brother, Dick Gehle (Karen), and sister who predeceased her, Karen Moore (Chet). Betty is also survived by a host of caring grandchildren, Andrew, Mark, Matthew and Jesse Hamilton, Elizabeth and Margaret Austin, Sarah Jane Schulze, Carter Nieman, and Elliott and Clyde Eaton. She has also been blessed with great-grandchildren Westen and Felicity Hamilton.
Betty was a courageous person who beat cancer and handled various other health complications with grace and dignity, and was a model of inner strength and independence for those who knew her and cared for her. She was a trained nurse, talented seamstress, cook and homemaker, doting wife and a loving mother to her children. She was also a regular volunteer at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church.
Friends will be received on Friday, November 21, from 4 to 7 PM at the Demaine Funeral Home, 520 South Washington Street, Alexandria, VA, 22314. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, November 22 at 12:00pm at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church, also in Alexandria, VA
