Betty S. Blizzard

She was born on February 27, 1935, in Wiley Ford, West Virginia to Elmer J. and Jessie M. (Deneen) Layton. She married John Blizzard on July 20, 1957. As a military wife, she relocated the family to accompany her husband many times over the years with tours of duty in France, Germany, Maryland and Virginia. She parented the kids alone during her husband’s two tours in Vietnam. She devoted herself to raising her children and providing a good home life for her family. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting and listening to classic country music, especially Elvis Presley, The Statler Brothers, Johnny Cash, Loretta Lynn and Patsy Cline.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, SFC John Blizzard, her parents Elmer and Jessie (Deneen) Layton, and her brothers, Vic Layton and Donnie Layton. She is survived by her sister Mary Lee (Layton) Grimshaw; a son, Tim Blizzard and his wife Lynne Glass, of Princeton, NJ; two daughters Debbie Anderson and her husband Dave of Fairfax Station, VA, and Dianna Conlin and her husband Brian of Alexandria, VA; eight grandchildren: Matthew Conlin, Douglas Conlin and his wife, Paige, Daniel Conlin, Thomas Conlin, Adam Anderson, Stephanie Anderson, Beth Blizzard and Brian Blizzard; and a great-granddaughter, Kara Conlin.

Viewings will be held on Friday, December 3, 2021, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Demaine Funeral Home, 520 S. Washington St, Alexandria, VA 22314. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on December 4, 2021, at Washington Farm United Methodist Church, 3921 Old Mill Rd, Alexandria, VA 22309. She will be buried next to her husband, John, in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
