Orland Wayne “Buck” Stringer of Bryant, AR passed from this life on December 22, 2020, with the comfort of his loving family around him. He was born to Gordon Dewey Stringer and Ina Mae Ponder Stringer in Broaddus, TX on September 20th, 1935. He was the youngest of 3 children, including his sister, Mercedes, and brother, Eugene Ferrell.
Upon completing high school, Buck enlisted in the United States Army and served honorably with the 101st Airborne. While stationed in Ft. Campbell, KY, he met a pretty brown haired girl named Carole Faye Wilson who would become the love of his life and wife of 61 years. He married her 3 days after he was honorably discharged from the Army, and moved with her back home to East Texas where they had their first 2 children, Daniel and Amy. After a couple years, Buck took a new job with First Electric Cooperative in Bryant, AR, where his family would plant their roots. He and Carole had two more children there, Ellen and Jason. Buck worked for First Electric for over 30 years, and was an active member of the Arch Street/Fairview Park Church of Christ, where he served as both a deacon and an elder for many years.
Buck was a handyman, a craftsman, and an incredibly gifted musician. He fixed things around the house with ease, built toys, gadgets and gizmos for his grandchildren to play with, and crafted his own expertly made musical instruments in his workshop. He was a very talented singer and guitar player, and shared his craft with his friends and family. During holidays and family reunions, he loved to sit with his children, grandchildren and great grand children and sing old western songs he had grown up with. He had hundreds of them memorized and often played songs no one had heard in years. He used his talents of singing and song leading at the local church where he attended for many years, and was known for his beautiful tenor voice and his wonderful ability to lead the congregation in song.
Buck was the picture perfect example of the ideal man. He was a warrior, a provider, a leader, a loving husband, father, and grandfather, and the best friend that one could ask for. He was masculine and tough, and also tender hearted, sincere, and quick witted. He will be sorely missed by the many friends and loved ones whose lives he impacted so profoundly for the better.
Buck is proceeded in death by his father, Gordon Dewey Stringer, his mother, Ina Mae Ponder Stringer, his sister, Mercedes “Ceedo” Stringer Tucker, his brother Eugene Ferrell “Brown” Stringer, and his daughter-in-law Lisa Lean House Stringer. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years Carole Faye Wilson Stringer, his 4 children, Daniel Stringer, Amy Stringer Haile, Ellen Stringer Mitchell, and Jason Stringer, his 16 grandchildren Erin, Joseph, Seth, Megan, Jacob, John, Benjamin, Emily, Melody, Samuel, Burke, Naomi, Tate, Ezra, Adalia and Audrey, and his 7 great-grandchildren, Lena, Della, Tessa, Artemis, Serin, Ellis, and Vaughn.
