James “Rick” Hughes, beloved husband, father, son, brother, and Papa passed peacefully into heaven Wednesday April 9, 2025, in Waco, Texas at the age of 71. Born May 7, 1953 in Little Rock, Arkansas to “Jimmy” and Ruthie Hughes. Rick loved sports and was a devoted Razorback fan. He attended McClellan High School where he played basketball earning a scholarship to play at UALR. He also loved playing baseball and fast pitch softball. Rick won the first annual “Home Run Derby.” After college Rick went to work for Walmart, working his way up to general manager at the Walmart Return Center in Waco, Texas ending with 42 years of service. Rick's legacy will live on through the many lives he touched with his kindness, generosity and unwavering dedication to his family, friends, and coworkers. He was a man of strength and integrity, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Rick is survived by his wife and best friend, Karen of 33 years, mother Ruthie Hughes of Mabelvale, brother Gary (Maurice) Hughes also of Mabelvale, one daughter Heather (Tony) Morton of Searcy, AR, stepson Kerry Campbell of Texas, 6 grandkids; and 2 great grandkids.
He was preceded in death by his father, James "Jimmy" Hughes; and grandparents Daniel and Sadie Hughes, Horace and Pearl Crook. A celebration of life will be Friday April 18, 2025 at 12:00 PM with a visitation one hour prior to service at Pinecrest Funeral Home(7401 AR-5, Alexander, AR 72002)
